      How it works

      It is a short acting benzodiazepine, used as a premedicament and sedative in surgical procedures and for the induction of anaesthesia. Onset time of sedative effects after IM administration is 15 minutes with peak sedation occurring in 30-60 minutes

      Side Effects

      Fluctuations in vital signs including decreased respiratory effects, variation in blood pressure and pulse rate are the most frequently seen findings. Laryngospasm, bronchospasm, dyspnoea, hyperventilation and airway obstruction.Premature ventricular contraction, vasovagal episode and tachycardia.Retrograde amnesia, euphoria, confusion, nervousness, restlessness, nightmares dysphonia and paresthesia.Blurred vision, diplopia, nystagamus, visual disturbances, blocked ears, loss of balance and light headedness.Headache, hiccough, nausea, vomiting, yawning, lethargy, weakness and faint feeling.

      Drug Interactions

      Antipsychotics , hypnotics , antidepressants , narcotic analgesics , anticonvulsants , anesthetics , antihistamines , alcohol, erythromycin , cimetidine , diltiazem , verapamil , ketoconazole , fluconazole , itraconazole , cyclosporin , nifedipine , nabilone , muscle relaxants , ulcer healing drugs , xanthines , macrolides , protease inhibitors.

      Indication

      For induction of general anaesthesia. For preoperative sedation (induction of sleepiness and relief of apprehension) and also to impair memory of preoperative events .

      When not to Use

      It is contra-indicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to the drug. Benzodiazepines are contraindicated in patients with acute narrow angle glaucoma.

      Dormicum Injection Precautions

      Precaution

      Infants and children younger than 3 years using anesthesia or drugs for sedation (including midazolam) for procedures/surgeries may be at risk for slower brain growth. Talk to the doctor about the risks and benefits of this medication.

      Dormicum Injection Warnings

      Warning 1

      Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: certain eye problems (narrow-angle glaucoma, untreated open-angle glaucoma), heart failure, kidney disease, liver disease.

      Warning 2

      Do not take prescription medications , OTC sedatives or hypnotics for atleast 24 hours after administration.

      Warning 3

      This medication is not recommended for use during pregnancy. It may harm an unborn baby.
