      Magnesium sulfate can act as a smooth muscle relaxant, possibly by blocking calcium-mediated contraction, decreasing acetylcholine release from neuromuscular junctions, and reducing histamine-induced airway spasm .

      Drug Interactions

      Calcium channel blockers , nifedipine , non-depolarising muscle relaxants , suxamethonium .

      Indication

      Magnesium Sulfate Injection is used to treat low levels of magnesium in the blood. It is also used for prevention (and control) of seizures in patients with severe pre-eclampsia (high blood pressure associated with pregnancy) or eclampsia (convulsions as a result of pre-eclampsia).

      When not to Use

      You should not be given Magnesium Sulfate if: • you are allergic to Magnesium Sulfate or to any of the other ingredients in this medicine • You suffer from liver or kidney failure • You suffer from a disease of the brain associated with cirrhosis of the liver • You have myasthenia gravis (a chronic progressive muscular weakness disease) • You suffer from heart disease .

      There are no known effects of Magnesium Sulfate Injection on driving and using machines. Please speak to you r doctor before driving or operating machinery.

      Magnesium Sulphate Warnings

      Warning 1

      A risk-benefit assessment should be performed in individual cases prior to initiation of treatment.

      Warning 2

      In patients with mild to moderate renal insufficiency (impaired kidney function), Magnesium Sulphate should be used with special care.

      Warning 3

      Talk to your doctor, pharmacist or nurse before receiving Magnesium Sulfate if you suffer from any liver or kidney problems .
