How it works

It contains: Dextromethorphan HBr – a non-addictive antitussive that mildly calms the inflamed throat and cough by elevating cough threshold in the brain. Chlorpheneramine Maleate – an anti-histamine, a chemical produced in the body to protect against foreign invasion, which prevents nasal secretion and allergic response. Guaifenesin loosens and thins phlegm and bronchial secretions to ease expectoration. By reducing the viscosity and adhesiveness of secretions, guaifenesin increases the efficacy of the mucociliary mechanism in removing accumulated secretions from the upper and lower airway. Citrate is a weak base and so reacts with hydrochloric acid in the stomach to raise the pH. It it further metabolized to bicarbonate which then acts as a systemic alkalizing agent, raising the pH of the blood and urine 8. It also acts as a diuretic and increases the urinary excretion of calcium.
