      How it works

      In men, Goserelin is used to treat prostate cancer. It works by reducing the amount of ‘testosterone’ (a hormone) that is produced by your body. In women, Goserelin works by reducing the amount of‘oestrogen’ (a hormone) that is produced by your body.       Side Effects

      In Men : Impotence , Pain in your lower back or problems passing urine, Bone pain at the beginning of treatment , Reduced heart function or heart attack , Swelling and tenderness of your breasts , Increased levels of sugar in your blood. In Women : Dryness of the vagina , A change in breast size , Acne has been reported very commonly (often within one month of starting treatment) , Headaches , Small cysts (swellings) on the ovaries which can cause pain.

      Drug Interactions

      Quinidine, procainamide, amiodarone and sotalol , methadone , moxifloxacin , antipsychotics .

      Indication

      Use of Goserelin by men In men, Goserelin is used to treat prostate cancer ; In women, Goserelin is used to: Treat a condition called ‘endometriosis’. This is where cells normally only found in the lining of the womb (uterus) are found elsewhere in your body (normally on other structures near the womb) ; Treat benign growths in the womb called ‘uterine fibroids’.

      When not to Use

      Do not use : If you are allergic to goserelin or any of the other ingredients of this medicine . If you are pregnant or breast-feeding .

      Zoladex Depot Precautions

      Precaution

      Androgen deprivation therapy may prolong the QT/QTc interval. Providers should consider whether the benefits of androgen deprivation therapy outweigh the potential risks in patients with congenital long QT syndrome, congestive heart failure, frequent electrolyte abnormalities, and in patients taking drugs known to prolong the QT interval. Electrolyte abnormalities should be corrected. Consider periodic monitoring of electrocardiograms and electrolytes.

      Zoladex Depot Warnings

      Warning 1

      Increased risk of developing myocardial infarction, sudden cardiac death and stroke has been reported in association with use of GnRH agonists in men. The risk appears low based on the reported odds ratios, and should be evaluated carefully along with cardiovascular risk factors when determining a treatment for patients with prostate cancer. Patients receiving a GnRH agonist should be monitored for symptoms and signs suggestive of development of cardiovascular disease and be managed according to current clinical practice .

      Warning 2

      Hyperglycemia and an increased risk of developing diabetes have been reported in men receiving GnRH agonists. Hyperglycemia may represent development of diabetes mellitus or worsening of glycemic control in patients with diabetes. Monitor blood glucose and/or glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) periodically in patients receiving a GnRH agonist and manage with current practice for treatment of hyperglycemia or diabetes .

      Warning 3

      Before starting treatment with Goserelin , pregnancy must be excluded for women using Goserelin for benign gynecological conditions. Women of childbearing potential should be advised to avoid becoming pregnant.
